Guest Blog: Simple Ways to Find Everyday Joy

When you are going through a tough battle, such as the loss of a loved one, loss or change of a job, divorce, or any other personal challenges, it can be difficult to find joy. Things that you used to enjoy may now feel like a chore. It can be overwhelming to share these feelings with others, but it is best to seek support. No matter how much you may want to seclude yourself, this will only make matters worse.

While you can’t solve these problems overnight, there are many steps you can take to improve your quality of life and make yourself feel better.

Being happy during challenging times can be difficult and there is no quick fix, but here are a few tips that can bring you small amounts of joy quickly:

Get a plant – Studies show that a simple plant can make you feel better by providing cleaner air, connecting you with nature and, also, giving you responsibility over another living thing. If you are feeling down, try placing a plant in your bedroom. Remember to pick a low maintenance plant that will thrive without much care. Snake plants or succulents are perfect low maintenance plants.

Practice self-care – When you are feeling down it is common to neglect yourself. A great way to improve your mood is to practice self-care. These can be simple tasks like giving yourself a manicure, a facial, or even taking a hot bath. These tasks will help by boosting your self-esteem and, thus, making you feel better about yourself.

Spend time with loved ones – It is important, during times of duress, to be around people who truly love you. Often times we think that our pain can be a burden to our loved ones but, instead, it is a weight on our shoulders and by sharing this with others it can lighten the load.

Be grateful – Although this may be hard to do when you are feeling your worst, it is important to be thankful for the many blessings you already have. By showing gratitude, you are allowing yourself to find joy in the present. As you practice this you will find that there are so many good things in your life.
