Where is God in my suffering, Chaplain?
He is where He always has been, right with you. Going through suffering is very painful and it is hard to believe that God is with you. It is so normal to question and doubt that He even cares. The most important thing to remember is that you cannot depend on your feelings to tell you the truth. The pain we are experiencing physically, emotionally, and spiritually can cause us to see God differently. The truth is that He sees your suffering. He does not want you to deny it. Tell Him all about it. Scripture tells us that God suffers with you; you do not suffer alone. He wants to comfort and heal you. As a hospice and hospital chaplain, I have seen God heal in so many ways. I do not understand the ways of God and why He allows suffering. I would have to be God to know that answer. However, I do know that He loves you and has a plan for your life in the midst of your suffering.
