As I read and listen to the reports this past week on social media, TV and in my conversations with people, it is hard for them to believe that God cares. A question asked to me is, “How could a loving God allow what has been happening in our nation to happen?” Why can’t he just stop it from happening? That would be a perfect world in which we would be living in. We would be like robots not having any free will. The truth is there is good and there is evil in this world. We have choices and from those choices there are consequences to our actions. If those choices are meant to be evil, good people will be injured emotionally, physically and spiritually, and some could die. God intended things to be different. Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis in the Bible changed all that. They made a choice against God. Sin (anything that separates us from God) entered into the world. The good news is that same God had a way to turn it around and so he offered up his only son, Jesus Christ, to become flesh and die on a cross to take away our sins. Then He left the Holy Spirit who would instruct us on a daily basis how to do good, not evil. He would give us the capacity to love others and care about them. Then, we are also given the promise of Heaven. In Romans 3:23 the Bible clearly states that we have all sinned and come short of the Glory of God. In other words, none of us are perfect. There is freedom when we realize that we all fall short and are in need of someone to help us. We are more sinful than we want to admit but we are more loved that we could ever imagine. God wants to remind you today that He loves you. Do you believe that? My prayer today is that we would look to the One that can give us the strength and desire to do good and not evil, and that is God, through his son Jesus Christ, with the help of the Holy Spirit.
