Time is a Gift by Chaplain Liz Danielsen

Enjoying the moment. Paying attention. Not rushing to get on to something more important. Whatever we are doing is important—experiencing each moment along the way.

Just the other day, God reminded me that time is a gift from Him. He has given me twenty-four hours a day. I am a steward of that time, and I have a choice in how I use it. Each moment is unique—it has never come before and will never come again. How I choose to spend it matters.

Recently, in my own life, I’ve found myself wasting this gift by rushing through the moments because there’s so much to do. But in doing that, I miss the voice of God speaking to me. I miss those special moments when He wants to show up in ways I never imagined.

How about you? Are you rushing through your day? Do you remember the conversations you had with friends and family yesterday? When you walked outside, surrounded by God’s creation, did you hear the birds singing, notice the flowers, or take in the many shades of green in the trees? Did you truly pause to see what was around you? How long has it been since you heard God’s voice guiding you?

This is for someone today: God is speaking to you. Don’t wait for a difficult diagnosis, a loss of hearing or sight, or the passing of a loved one before you begin to cherish the moments He’s given you. Time is His gift to us all. When we use it wisely, it can transform us and refresh our spirit.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
—Psalm 118:24
