We all need to have a sense of why we are here. We all need to know we were created for a purpose. We will never find fulfillment and true happiness until we are doing the very thing for which we were created. But God won’t move us into the big things He has called us to until we have proven faithful in the small things He’s already given us.
When I look back at the many opportunities I had to learn and grow—both in my family life and in ministry within hospitals and hospices—it was the small things I needed to learn how to do and accomplish. Those small things brought me to where I am today. There were days I felt impatient, eager to get started and open the Center for SCSM. But God had other plans. His plans were perfect, because He knew me better than I knew myself. I had to be faithful in the small things He placed before me—as a wife, a mother, and a friend.
I carried many responsibilities in the wider community as well as in my faith community. There was still more to learn before I could fully step into the vision God had given me. It took sixteen years of waiting, growing, and realizing that the small things truly matter to God before I could be entrusted with the vision of SCSM.
Do you feel like God has something He wants you to do, but you’re becoming impatient as you wait, and He prepares you? Are you frustrated, feeling like your spouse or children are standing in the way of what you believe you’re meant to do for God? I want to encourage you to trust the Lord. He knows what’s best for you. God’s perfect timing is everything.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us:
“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”
