Dear Lord: Hear my prayer today. Set a guard over my mouth, keep watch over the door of my lips. Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil but to what is good.  You are my strong deliverer. When I was woven together in my mother’s womb you saw my unformed body and you know me today. I want so much to do things “your way” but in my illness I find that I am changing. I am moody and self- centered and I am in need of forgiveness and a fresh beginning. Thank you Lord because I know that is possible with you. Amen

Who’s Caring for the Caregiver?

Support and Resource Group

How do you cope as a caregiver?  If we focus on the big picture of fulfilling God’s will, we change focus from the daily snapshots we see of our difficulties.  Love is the heart quality that makes it possible to meet the care-giving challenge.

Caring will mean dedication, sacrifice, be exhausting and most often not respected.  Do you feel alone?  Helpless?  Do you need resources?  Would sharing with others help you break down barriers, deal with the overwhelming feelings, deal with decisions and make life easier?

There is a support and resource group here for you (No fee and no registration needed).  Group sessions meet Wed AM 10:30 to noon at the SCSM center in Warrenton or communication by phone is available (call 540-349-5814).

Group is led by Virginia Wright.  Virginia and her husband, Chris, are currently caring for her aging parents in their home.  Her experience comes from about 10 years of caring for her late husband, Harold, during his challenges with kidney failure, Parkinson’s disease and confinement to a wheel chair while juggling a full time career and caring for the family farm.

After being cast into a caregiver role for my wife for a period of
about a year and half I begun to have feelings of isolation and
despair.  I responded to an ad in our local paper regarding caregiver
support services offered by Spiritual Care Support Ministries(SCSM).
SCSM through its prayers, meetings, literature and awareness of
community based support activities has provided a God sent roadmap for
guidance and help through my caregiver journey.  SCSM provides an
outlet for me to share my feelings with others who have experienced or
who are now experiencing similar care giving roles.  I look forward to
a continued association with SCSM.
